Future Review: Tom Clancy’s End War

Martin: I am a big fan of the Tom Clancy games from Ubisoft. End War is a new franchise, its an RTS that is controlled by voice recognition. I won’t be doing a full review, but overall I think its great if a little bit too easy in places. Instead, I am concentrating on the futuristic element of the voice controls.

To begin with I thought I would avoid the voice controls and just use the D pad options instead. But, I went along with voice controls for the well thought out tutorial stage. Once the game got going and I had learnt all the possible commands (about 10 minutes because there aren’t many) I found myself using the voice command all the time. Its a revelation. Get over the initial self consciousness about talking to your X-Box 360 and its amazing how easy and quickly you can order troops around.

I have played a bit of Command and Conquer over the years but never got on with it. This was completely different I found it so much easier to play because I wasn’t thinking about the controls, just the strategy. For me, all RTS games should be like this in future. I can’t see many wider applications in gaming except perhaps ordering your squad around in Rainbow Six or some novelty reload systems on shooters, shout reload and it does for example.

So give it a try, all strategy games should be controlled by voice.
