Martin: Thought we would bring back the future echoes news snippets from the early days of talkingfuture. We’ll try to get a post like this up every week or maybe sooner so that we provide a little more opinionated content than we do at the moment with the weekly columns.
BBC Link – The UK government have announced locations for the new generation of nuclear reactors. I hope that they are looking at including some of the modern thorium reactors, but in any case this is a positive step for energy production in the UK. If we produce our base power from these stations and supplement it with renewables we could dump coal and gas reasonably soon.
Engadget Link – An amazing story about generating electricity using solar panels in orbit and then “beaming” it back down to earth. I can’t wait to see this in action!
Autoblog Link – Bill Gates is listed on a patent application for an electromagnetic generator, hopefully more will be revealed soon.
Autocar Link – The UK government have been busy this week, they are also announcing cash incentives for people buying electric cars. Looks like I am £5000 closer to being able to afford a Tesla then. I hope it isn’t too popular though because I like the idea of early adopting an electric car and being a little bit unique for a while.
