This weeks highlights include the 787 flying, soon, maybe. Those clumsy scientists at CERN getting their LHC back online. Murdoch selling himself to Bing and a potentially very serious story about bad science in climate research.
Bing buying Murdochs search love? – Microsoft might pay Murdoch to include his news on Bing when it gets removed from all the other search engines. Murdoch’s strategy with the internet looks madder by the week, watching this play out from afar is like teaching an elderly relative to use email.
LHC switched back on – I hope they have adult supervision this time so they don’t break it again. We should start to see some results in the next year and perhaps uncover some exciting new facts about the construction of – well, everything.
787 maiden flight – Finally after all the delays the most promising and best looking of the new generation of airliners will make it’s first flight in December – maybe.
Climate Gate – Potentially huge revelations about climate science have emerged. Some hackers have got hold of emails from the world leading Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia (really?), they show that some senior Climate Change Researchers may have been fiddling data. Having just finished reading the excellent Bad Science book this story has particular interest for me. I’m also very much undecided as to whether man is causing the climate to change beyond the natural cycle (I feel like the only person who doesn’t have a strong conviction either way). A lot of my indecision comes from the fact that I am not sure we even have the technology to accurately model the climate of the entire world and all the variables that may affect it. Will we ever be capable of that?
One thing is for certain though: Shonky Science from either side of the argument doesn’t do any good at all.
